Frequently
Asked Questions
What
is THERMAL INSULATION?
The term thermal insulation refers to materials
used to reduce the rate of heat transfer. Thermal insualtion is the
method of preventing heat from escaping a container or from entering
the container. In other words, thermal insulation can keep an enclosed
area such as a building warm or it can keep the inside of a container cold.
Heat is transferred from one material to another by conduction insulation,
the R-Value is an indication of how well a material insulates.
How
does CSR Coolbatts work?
CSR Coolbatts is designed to minimize
3 types of heat flow, which are conduction, convection and radiation.
CSR Coolbatts is made from rock, which is a poor conductor of
heat. It contains millions of tiny isolated air pockets which
trap the heat and virtually eliminates heat transfer by convection.
The many fibres in CSR Coolbatts also restrict the passage of
heat by radiation.
What
is R-Value?
R-value is the measurement of resistance to heat flow.
Insulation materials have tiny pockets of trapped air. These pockets resist the
transfer of heat through material. The ability of insulation to slow down the
transfer of heat is measured in R-Values. The higher the R-value, the greater
the insulating power.
How does CSR Coolbatts prevent the spread of fire?
CSR Coolbatts is fully encapsulated with double sided fire-retarded foil and it has
characteristics that prevents the spread of fire. The product was tested at
SIRIM according to BS 476 part 7:1997 (Report No: 2006FE0294). The result
shows that CSR Coolbatts is classified under Class One Surface Spread of Flame.
How
CSR Coolbatts is installed?
CSR Coolbatts will be installed above your ceiling by skillful
local installers with proper supervision. It only takes 2-3 hours to install for an average
of 800 square feet. No nailing ,screwing or gluing is involved and in addition to that,
it is not messy. Existing electrical wiring will be placed above CSR Coolbatts.
How is CSR Coolbatts manufactured?
The raw materials are melted in a furnace
using coke as fuel at approximately 1300ºC and the molten
material is fiberized by using our internal high spinning technology.
The fibres coated with thermosetting binder are heated, cured,
bonded into a very lightweight slab and fully wrapped with foil
which we call CSR Coolbatts.
Why must we insulated?
Insulation is used to perform one or more of the following functions:
- Energy Conservation and Comfort
Insulation reduces energy needed to heat and cool homes and commercial buildings.
Reduction in energy consumption means less fossil fuel is burned to produced that
energy and this protect the environment through the reduction of carbon dioxide,
nitrogen oxides and greenhouse gases.
- Fire Protection
Prevent or reduce damage to equipment from exposure to fire or corrosive atmosphere.
- Acoustic Control
Insulation can absorb sound, reducing the unwanted noise from appliances, audio equipment,
conversation and other sources of sound that are transmitted through your walls and floors.
Insulation can also reduce noise from mechanicalsystems.
- Condensation Control
Prevent or reduce condensation on surfaces. A vapour-resistant membrance (commonly called
a vapour retarder) attached to batt or roll insulation decreases the possibility of moisture
vapour condensing to water within the structure. If moisture condenses inside a wall or in
an attic, it can cause various problems.
Why should I choose mineral wool insulation?
Mineral wool is a non-combustible product and it is mildew resistant. It falls under Class O
in Malaysia UBBL as tested according to BS476. It does not loose its R-value when the temperature
changes and it is a totally non-toxic product. Mineral wool insulation is breathing wool, and any
moisture in the building's concrete or timber can escape through the insulation is breathing wool,
and any moisture in the building's concrete or timber can escape through the insulation as the
building dries out, thus eliminating any risk of rot or mildew. In general, construction elements that
insulates with mineral wool are comfortable, healthy and fire-safe.
Does CSR Coolbatts change physically over time?
No, it is inert. It's physical and insulating properties are constant.
Can we reuse the CSR Coolbatts?
Yes. The reusable nature of insulation is important because most modern buildings are subject to
expansion, remodelling or some other type or renovation during lifetime. Extra measures should be taken
while dismantling the insulation so that it'll not loose its integrity. This is important so that it'll make the
reinstallation job easier.
Will CSR Coolbatts in any way cause a long-term health risk?
No, the question of the general public's exposure to rockwool and glasswool products has been
reviewed by several expert international panels (such as IPCS, WHO,ILO and IARC), and test results show
extremely low exposure levels. Health risk from Coolbatts is therefore 0. You need not worry about the
presence of man-made fibres, such as rockwool and glasswool. We also have included an article from
Fibreglass And Rockwool Insulation Manufacturers Association of Australia Inc:
